End of Religion - About Montreal Author, Robert Lewis
Robert Lewis was born among the Inuit in Hay River, a village on the shore of Great Slave Lake in Canada’s North West Territories, where his parents were teaching school.

His family left the North when he was a year old, and he lived in Kitchener, Ontario, until the age of nineteen. He has never been back to Hay River.

The End of Religion

In 1994 he moved to Montreal, Quebec, following five years in British Columbia, on Canada’s west coast, where he studied at the University of Victoria.

In 2004 he published Gaj: The End of Religion, his first book.

He has recently completed the documentary film Be Smile: The Stories of Two Urban Inuit, about two Inuit men living on the streets of Montreal in the aftermath of cultural genocide.
